Dragon Boat Festival

On May 17 and 18, 2012, the Kinneret will be the venue for a fun, exciting and historic event – the first ever Israel Dragon Boat Festival – and you can be a part of it!

Dragon Boat racing is the fastest-growing water sport in the world. Races and festivals are held in 70 countries and now this global phenomenon is coming to Israel, with the support of a joint Canada-Israel initiative.

Dragon Boating has been called the ultimate team sport, because it is accessible to rowers of all ages and abilities. It’s easy to learn and tremendously fun. Twenty paddlers, a drummer and a steersperson move in unison, combining strength with teamwork, in a boat whose elaborate design originates in ancient China.

Funds raised through the race and festival will be directed to two projects supporting youth at risk in Calgary’s partnership region, Etzba Hagalil.

Teams are being formed across Canada – and it’s time for Calgary to get in on the act. We can form our own team, or pair up with another Canadian group. Grab your friends, or your spouse, or your kids! This is an ideal adventure trip, perfect for those who have been to Israel many times before and for first-timers.
